Change Sanitary Pads Frequently Regularly changing your pads, tampons or menstrual cups is essential to keep up the good hygiene levels. If you're sticking to one single pad throughout the whole day, it causes bacterial infections in the vaginal area. Though you bleed less, you must change your pads regularly to avoid any vaginal infections. For women who use pads, change them every four to five hours. If you use cups, change every 12 hours. Else, if you're using tampons, make sure to change them every four to six hours. 2. Don't pig out Salty snacks Just like pregnancy cravings, you'll have periods cravings too. Although, you should know your limits. Especially you must completely avoid salty foods like a pack of chips, french fries, etc. Salty foods will make the periods symptoms such as cramps more worse. During the periods time, your body undergoes water retention and thereby leads to bloating. In such circumstances, if you munch on salty foods, they aggravate bloating symptoms and worsen the period cramps. 3. Don't Consume or Eat Dairy products Similar to salty foods, you must also cut down on dairy products. Dairy is never your good friend when it's flooding down south. Dairy foods will make you feel gassier. It might be because of hormonal changes. Whatever the reason, say no to dairy and control your cramps. 4. Never have unprotected Intercourse Intercourse on periods with no protection can certainly become a messy business. Don't mess up with your periods by going for unprotected intercourse. Most of the men and women actually avoid period intercourse as they don't feel comfortable but it's completely ok for others. If you're likely or unlikely for period intercourse, use the protection. That's because blood is a great carrier for viruses and eventually bacteria sprouts up. So, the next time when you get occupied having a good time, be cautious about the blood which acts against you carrying a lot of bacteria and viruses. Furthermore, the cervix is slightly dilated and thus the viruses or bacteria can easily get transmitted from cervix to the pelvis. Therefore, unprotected intercourse is always a bad sign when you bleed. 5. Say no to Caffeine Yes, a cup of coffee is what we need to start the mornings or on a hectic day. But when on periods, you should keep coffee at an arm's length from you. You know why? Because caffeine increases the period cramps and disturbs you by making you feel irritated. So, that cup of latte isn't a great option while the period is on duty. 6. Don't get Waxed Well, waxing itself is a painful act. Then how is it possible to bear the damn period cramps and the waxing pain together? OMG! Not just that, you should also know that while on periods, the pain receptors become extra sensitive. So, a slighter body movement or a small pinch on your arm can make you scream out loud. Though it's an underarm wax, a bikini area clean up or wax on any other parts of your body, it's not recommended by gynecologists. 7. Don't be a Night Owl I know how good it is to sleep late nights. But when the period takes over, your brain refuses not to sleep. It perhaps sometimes keeps you awake all night. Most of the time, you'll feel like binge-watching Netflix or gossiping the whole night with your intimates. Remember inadquate sleep can release a stress hormone, cortisol, in your body which can worsen the period symptoms. Up to the very end! Make sure not to commit any of the above-mentioned things if you really wanted to have a safe and pain-free period.
